While attending Baylor University, Jimmy committed to a simple lifestyle of following Jesus, studying the Bible and obeying its teachings. Through the simplicity of loving God, loving others and loving the broken world, Jimmy became captivated with world missions and the potential of the local church.
Jimmy’s holistic approach to life and ministry is centered in his belief that the church is the hope for the world. He founded Antioch Community Church in 1999 with the dream that a local church could not only impact its city, but also take ownership of training, equipping and sending out missionaries to the nations.
In 1987, Jimmy and his wife Laura founded a discipleship-focused training school that would equip everyday people to have a passion for Jesus and His purposes in the earth and to live a lifestyle of prayer, worship and evangelism. Soon after, Jimmy also started World Mandate, an annual conference aimed to inspire and equip people to live missionally regardless of vocation, location or calling.
Today, World Mandate hosts thousands of attendees, and the Antioch Discipleship Schools around the world have graduated more than 1,600 students and sent missionaries worldwide.
Jimmy’s dream to see the local church answer the world’s needs and take the Gospel to every nation is being realized through the Antioch International Movement of Churches. An expanding relational network of church-planting churches, the Antioch movement has grown from one church in Waco to more than 90 national and international church plants and ministry hubs and tens of thousands of believers meeting together both locally and around the world. This movement also encompasses many connected ministries, including Acts of Mercy, Haiti Transformed, UnBound and Engage the Crisis.
With a firm biblical foundation, a pioneering spirit and a commitment to reproducible community, Jimmy’s leadership has guided Antioch, its churches and its many affiliated ministries for more than 25 years.
